In 2019, I participated in an artist residency in Portugal at the creative art lab, Buinho. The focus of the residency was to explore new forms of animation and illustration while learning about the history of the small village of Messejana.
Messejana is a town of approximately 600 people, but despite it’s small size it has a fairly large history. Nestled in the rolling green hills of the Alentejo region of Portugal, Messejana is home to a traditional chair weaving technique known as buinho. The town dates back to the 13th century and you can see remains of this history through the ruins that lay scattered around the town.
Throughout my time in Messejana, I was able to realize a handful of projects including a mural and a short animated film.
